waverly_wiz | Keeping Occupied [Video/Offline]

[Alex watched, curious and excited. This had to work. There was no way that these two wizards could have powers so completely different. Worlds apart, even. Granted, it did take Alex a couple shots before she got the spell just right, but something always happened when she tried.]

[And.... nothing. That's right, for the first time in Hermione Granger's life, she tried a spell and nothing happened. The shock quickly wore off and turned into some frustration. How did the other girl do it and she couldn't? What was the secret? She had to find out.]

[Alex, in cat form, looked up at Hermione, just as surprised as she was. Blinking, she spoke the words to another incantation:]

Humanosa Espinosa.

[She grew back to her human form, smoothing her hair back with the back of her hand, much like a cat cleaning her ears. Sometimes the animal mannerisms took a while to wear off.]

That's weird. It didn't work.

Why didn't it? I'm sure I did exactly what you did, so it should have.

[Yes, Hermione is very huffy about this. Spells are supposed to work for her. They always work for her.]

Were you thinking about an animal?

I.... no. I wasn't.

Maybe that was it then. Think of an animal you want to turn into, and try it again. See what happens.

All right.

[With another deep breath, she raises her wand once more, this time keeping her thoughts focused on the animal that first popped into her head. Her cat. Swishing her wand, she repeats the spell.]

[Alex watched, keeping her proverbial fingers crossed. All Hermione needed was a little more focus. Right?]

[And this time, it worked. In the place of the teenage girl now stood a large, orange cat. Although call that cat ugly and she might get mad.]

Awesome! You did it!

But remember, make sure you're only thinking about one animal.

[For once, there's no sarcasm in her voice. That was quite an ugly cat.]

[She loves that ugly cat, okay. Crookshanks is just misunderstood.]

... Right.

[She assumes that to turn back, you have to focus on being a human, correct? That would follow logically. So that's what she does, repeating Alex's spell from before.]

[Alex gives a smirk. Maybe their magic wasn't so different after all. Hermione was getting the hang of her spells. But she vaguely wondered if the other wizard's spells would be as easy to pick up.]

[Now back in human form, Hermione stands and dusts her robes off slightly.]

What other sorts of spells do you know?

Well, I was gonna show you that do-over spell, right?

Here, knock that over.
[She points to what appears to be a glass, and a fragile looking one, to boot.]

Like Reparo? It's quite a simple spell. One of the first I learned, actually.

[... Yeah, that side of Hermione is back.]

[Alex smirks.]

But why fix something when you could just pretend it never happened?

[Okay, you got her. Hermione is intrigued.]

I suppose you have a point. Let's see it, then.

[She knocks over the glass.]

[Alex gives a small, satisfied grin as it shatters.]

Okay. Check this out.

Mcreary Timereary.

[She performs the spell, making a vertical wave motion with her hands and pointing toward the glass as she recites the incantation. In a flash, the glass is back on the table again, in one piece and in the exact spot where it had been before. Then she let out a low, evil-ish laugh.]

I bet the entire city just had deja vou!

[Hermione has to admit that she's impressed. Although at the same time, a little worried. She's had experience dealing with time travel and changing things by going back in time. Would this spell do the same thing? She has to ask. Because one mustn't really mess with time. (Well, except in the case of when she and Harry helped Sirius escape the Dementor's Kiss, but that was different.)]

... Does that spell... affect anything aside from what it's being focused on?

Not really. It doesn't really go back far enough to do anything drastic. But it does mess with people's heads. Humans and people who don't use magic always feel like whatever just happened has happened before. Kinda like world-wide deja-vou.

[She nods, familiar with that sort of thing. There are some pieces of magic from her world that can momentarily confuse Muggles.]

Right. I see. That makes sense.

[She gives a smile. It's nice to talk with another wizard finally.]

Hey! Wanna see something cool?

[She's curious about what 'something cool' entails.]

Sure, I suppose.

[Grinning, Alex rushes to a window and looks out, spotting a few people walking around outside.]

Hold your head like this.
[She demonstrates by placing her hands on her ears, as if holding them from floating away.]
