Well, there are charms, which I guess are what you'd consider traditional spells. We also learn Transfiguration, in which you can change the form of an object. ... Very difficult, but it's one of my favorite subjects. And next year I'll learn how to Apparate, which I'm very excited about, where you can appear in another place just using magic. ...

Oh, that sounds...a little basic.

[She was expecting something perhaps a little more different. But hey. Wizards have their similarities, she supposes.]

What else do you know?

[Oh no you did not just tell her that her knowledge was basic. Oh. no.]

How big's the load?

[Alex gets a kick out of one-upping, but when she loses one-up battles, she's likely to pull the 'I don't care' card.]

[Hermione totally gets a kick out of one-upping too. ... They actually have a lot in common, considering.

And she'll just smile. Slang doesn't translate right sometimes, does it? But it's time to brag regardless.]

[Being here for so long, she kind of missed her brother. So talking about him grew easier and easier.]

So, how do you practice your magic?
[Brainiac or not, Alex is still curious. She's been trying to get another wizard to teach her something in this place for quite a while now.]

You know... actually doing the spells.
Or do you cast them by writing it down?

Oh! No, we don't write down the spells. They're casted verbally. Sometimes silently, if you have the skill to do so.

Cool. Can I see a few?

That'd be all right, I suppose. ... What do you want to see?

Hm. Do you know any time traveling spells?

There aren't any time traveling spells.

I know one! Well, sorta.
It won't take you to anywhere too far, but it rewinds the past couple seconds. It's like a do-over spell.

My dad taught me when he accidentally broke his crystal ball.

[Whatever else she might be thinking about her knowledge being surpassed is irrelevant, because she finds herself... interested.]

I've never heard of a spell like that. ... Fascinating.

[And Alex is no longer concerned with one-upping for the moment. She's just excited to be able to talk about some of her own magic for a change. With another wizard, too! She never really gets the opportunity to be the informative one.]

[Hermione has to admit, it's interesting to talk about magic with someone else that's not from her own world. Who knows what she could learn?]

[Alex smirks. Not only was she excited to show this girl a spell from back home, but she'd get to show her another spell on the way. She pulls her wand out of her boot and looks toward the PCD again.]

Hey, put your PCD on the floor.

[Hermione just looks into the screen with a confused expression.]
